Sepia and Mink Ragdolls
All these colors can be accompanied by Tabby, Smoke, or Silver. The overlaying patterns are the same for the Sepia's and Minks and the Pointed Ragdoll, being either;
solid-no white (equivalent to the colorpoint pointed-variety)
bicolour (with white inverted V on face,
white paws, white backlegs, white bib and white belly)
mitted (with white chin, white mitts on front,
white backlegs, white bib and white belly)
The eye colors are as follows:
sepia: green/gold, but also blue(ish) eyes are possible, odd eyes
mink: aqua (can varies from green/blue to blue/green)
There are two other categories of Ragdolls
that are neither Pointed or Solid. They are the beautiful Sepia and Mink Ragdolls.
Like the Solids, the Sepia/Mink lines also go back to IRCA breeders.
It was Buckwheat who threw in the sepia gene.
At birth, the mink kittens are significantly darker in bodycolor than their pointed littermates and the sepia kittens are even darker than their mink littermates. The points of an adult sepia, mink and pointed Ragdoll look quite similar but the body color is really different. sepia Ragdolls: points are
dark - body color is near (not quite!) the same as the point color is
Sepia and mink body coat color is a very 'warm' color. Genetically, Pointed Ragdolls have 2 point genes (cs, cs), Sepia Ragdolls have 2 sepia genes (cb, cb) (also known as the Burmese genes),
Mink Ragdolls have 1 point gene and 1 sepia gene (cb, cs).
A sepia gene is not sex related but to get a mink Ragdoll at least one of the parents needs to be a mink. A Sepia Ragdoll, when bred to a Pointed Ragdoll, only produces Mink Ragdoll kittens.
